Daily activity:
Thursday 30th: water temp 75.9 WNW 7-10mph in the a.m. / 75.2 W 6-8mph in the p.m. The water was clean. There was a short run of Bonita in the early morning with 5 caught. A few Spanish Mackerel and Pompano were caught the entire day – much slower than yesterday. Mark F. hooked a nice King Mackerel on the outer sand bar. He had the fish back pier side but lost it as it made a sudden run. Late in the afternoon, Johnny L. tied up with a huge “Big Ugly” (Black Drum). It was his first one and will be hard to beat. There was lots of live bait available.
Friday: water temp 74.3 NNE 5-9mph in the a.m. / 74.1 NE 10-18mph in the p.m. The water was clean. It was a slow day. A few Pompano were caught in skinny water Mark visiting from Indiana caught his first Pompano. Ramsey, also from Indiana, was drifting an Alewife off the end Tee when he caught a small Cobia. Tyler G., from Georgia fought and brought the first Tarpon pier side. It ate a small Speedo on a King Rig. There was about a 30-minute Spanish Mackerel run with several good-sized ones caught.


Saturday: water temp 72.9 N 11-16mph in the a.m. / 73.4 N 11-18mph in the p.m. The water was clean. Spanish Mackerel were caught.
Sunday: water temp 71.8 N 4-6mph in the a.m. / 72.9 WSW 11-14mph wind in the p.m. The water was clear. Spanish Mackerel, Bonita and Pompano were caught.
Monday: water temp 72.1 NE 6-7mph in the a.m. / 73.2 SW 11-13mph in the p.m. The water was clean. There were a few Pompano and Spanish Mackerel caught in the morning. The afternoon started dead, but we got a little action later in the afternoon. A few more Pompano, some Hardtails and several more Spanish Mackerel hit the deck. George and Jackie caught good sizes ones on a bubble rig. The weekend cool front and 55 degree nights seemed to turn the bite off.

Tuesday: water temp 72.7 ENE 8-13mph in the a.m. / 73.8 SSE 14-18mph in the p.m. The water was clean. There was lots of live bait (Cigar Minnows, Spanish Sardine, Alewives and Speedos). There were Spanish Mackerel, Bonita and a few Bluefish caught in the morning. The Pompano were very slow to bite but a few were caught. It was dead in the afternoon except for Hardtails. They came in thick. We saw one Cobia, but it was not interested in anything.
Wednesday 06th: water temp 73.8 SSE 9-12mph in the a.m. / 76.6 SSE 14-18mph in the p.m. The water was clean. Spanish Mackerel and Hardtails were caught in the morning. Kim got a few nice ones. Midafternoon, Billy W. hooked a nice King Mackerel and after several trips from each corner of the pier, the fish shot the piling and was lost. Then Nory hooked up with a King, followed by Allen S and Kim V. All three were landed with Nory’s being the biggest at 20-pounds, Allan’s at 18.5 and Kim’s was 12-pounds. A few minutes later Jeff S. hooked up on a lure only to lose the King to a hook pull. Allan landed King # 2 a little later. So, the count was 6 hooked and 4 decked. A few more Spanish and a ton of Hardtails were caught in the afternoon. The live bait fish were thick.




Red Tide status: In Northwest Florida over the past week, K. brevis was observed at background concentrations in one sample from Escambia County.
